The Mind of His Grace 3
[Phaneroo 40]
Galatians 2:16 MSG: We Jews know that we have no advantage of birth over “non-Jewish sinners.” We know very well that we are not set right with God by rule-keeping but only through personal faith in Jesus Christ. How do we know? We tried it—and we had the best system of rules the world has ever seen! Convinced that no human being can please God by self-improvement, we believed in Jesus as the Messiah so that we might be set right before God by trusting in the Messiah, not by trying to be good.
One of the most sensitive wars in the Christian circles is the idea of humanism; the mind that asserts no existence of God and directs all things to the power of the human being to do everything. It has crept into Christianity.
There are humanistic Christians. Even if they can confess that there is a God above them, he is not responsible for their lives, morality and future. He just watches over them to ensure that they do things as best as they can. This is the very reason for self help books. A man helps himself so that God can move.
However, you must understand that when you create an atmosphere of helping yourself, that is where filth comes from. Christianity does not ask you to help yourself. It brings Jesus to help you.
Many Christians are trying to be good. They think that Christianity is doing the right thing. They do not understand that the power in Christianity is a life; that life is Jesus. That is what men need. He is the ever present help in time of need; he is not the ever present helper. It means that he goes past sympathy to empathy; he gets inside your situation and becomes part of the solution. Stop dealing with Jesus as just the present helper but the present help.
