Apostle Grace Lubega
Proverbs 21:16 (KJV): “The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.”
—
The Bible speaks of people who wander out of the way of understanding.
But what does this mean?
To wander out of the way of understanding describes a person who, having been exposed to the path of ethical and spiritual insight, chooses to deviate toward folly or self-will. And it is usually caused by pride, carnal desires, and distractions.
That kind of person does things that are contrary to the truth yet uses scripture to justify their actions. They do not reject the Bible outright; instead, they twist it to accommodate error.
For example, a man may commit adultery and use the Bible to explain why he was right to do so, claiming that the patriarchs had more than one wife. Such a person selectively references Scripture while ignoring the full counsel of God.
In Psalm 94:20, the Bible describes such conduct clearly: “Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?”
Wandering out of the way of understanding does not happen suddenly. It begins when scripture becomes a tool for self-defense rather than a mirror for self-examination.
The consequence is sobering: “He shall remain in the congregation of the dead.” Life flows where truth is honoured, not where it is manipulated.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for the truth of Your Word. My heart submits to truth. I allow the Word to correct and instruct me in all my ways. My understanding aligns with Your will. By this knowledge, I am kept in the paths of life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
