Luke 6:17 (KJV); And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
In our theme scripture, the writer of the gospel of Luke reveals a critical order in the things of the Spirit. He says that the multitude that followed Jesus came to HEAR HIM AND TO BE HEALED.
They did not come to be healed and then to hear Him and neither did they come for only healing.
This order is deliberate because, in the mind of the Spirit, hearing comes first. God expects this to be the mindset of every Christian regarding the teaching of the gospel.
When we attend service, we do not merely attend to be delivered. We attend to hear God and then be delivered. We do not merely come for transformation, we come to hear the Word of God and then be transformed.
This means that any form of change, whether it be healing or deliverance, starts with hearing the Word. It is hearing God’s Word that builds faith in the hearts of men, for He says in Romans 10:17 that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
In Ecclesiastes 5:1, the Bible says, “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and BE MORE READY TO HEAR than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.”
Thus, this order of hearing first does not only apply to church services but also extends to our private places of communion with God. Even when you pray, be more eager to hear what God is telling you than being more interested in what you must say to Him or what you desire to receive from Him.

GOLDEN NUGGET: When we attend service, we do not merely attend to be delivered. We attend to hear God and then be delivered. Obuteeka obu bugyendereirwe ahabw’okuba, omu nteekateeka y’Omwoyo, okuhurira nikwo kurikubanza. Ruhanga nayetaaga abakristaayo boona kugira enteekateeka egi aha bikwatiraine n’okubuurira engiri.
Kuturikuza aha kanisa kushaba, titurikuzayo kukomororwa kwonka. Nituzayo kuhurira Ruhanga haza bwanyima tukomororwa. Titurikwiija kuhindurwa kwonka, nitwiija kuhurira Ekigambo kya Ruhanga haza bwanyima tuhindurwe.

Okuhurira Ekigambo kya Ruhanga nikwo kurikureeta okwikiriza omu mitima y’abantu, ahabw’okuba nagamba omu kitabo ky’Abarooma 10:17 ngu okwikiriza kuruga omu bituhurira, kandi ebi tuhurira biruga omu kigambo kya Ruganga.

Luka 6:17 (KJV); Akashuka pamoja nao, akasimama mahali tambarare, pamoja na wanafunzi wake wengi, na makutano makubwa ya watu waliotoka Uyahudi wote na Yerusalemu, na pwani ya Tiro na Sidoni; waliokuja kumsikiliza na kuponywa magonjwa yao;
Katika andiko letu kuu, mwandishi wa injili ya Luka anafunua mpangilio maalum katika mambo ya Roho. Anasema kwamba umati uliomfuata Yesu ulikuja KUMSIKILIZA NA KUPONYWA.
Hawakuja kuponywa kisha kumsikiliza na wala hawakuja kwa uponyaji tu.
Utaratibu huu ni wa makusudi kwa sababu, katika akili ya Roho, kusikiliza huja kwanza. Mungu anatarajia hii kuwa wazo la kila Mkristo kuhusu mafundisho ya injili.
Tunapohudhuria huduma, hatuhudhurii tu kuokolewa. Tunahudhuria kumsikiliza Mungu na kisha kuokolewa. Hatuji tu kwa mabadiliko, tunakuja kusikiliza Neno la Mungu na kisha kubadilishwa.
Hii inamaanisha kuwa mabadiliko ya aina yoyote, iwe ni uponyaji au ukombozi, huanzia kwa kusikiliza Neno. Ni kusikiliza Neno la Mungu ambako hujenga imani ndani ya mioyo ya wanadamu, kwani anasema katika Warumi 10:17 kwamba imani, chanzo chake ni kusikia; na kusikia huja kwa neno la Kristo.
Katika Mhubiri 5:1, Biblia inasema, “Jitunze mguu wako uendapo nyumbani kwa Mungu; Maana ni heri kukaribia ili usikie, Kuliko kutoa kafara ya wapumbavu; Ambao hawajui kuwa wafanya mabaya.”
Kwa hivyo, agizo hili la kusikia kwanza halitumiki tu kwa huduma za kanisa bali pia linaenea kwa sehemu zetu za kibinafsi za ushirika na Mungu. Hata unapoomba, kuwa na hamu zaidi ya kusikia kile Mungu anakuambia kuliko kuwa na hamu zaidi ya kile lazima umwambie au kile unachotamani kupokea kutoka kwake.
