Matthew 16:3 (KJV); And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
In the English language, there is only one word to describe time but in Greek, there are two words; kairos and chronos. Chronos, from where we get chronology, means the time of minutes and seconds, days and months and years, the time of watches, calendars and clocks. Kairos alludes to spiritual time and not earthly time, it is the appointed time and occasions of the Spirit.
In our theme scripture, the word used is kairos and not chronos .
Why is it so important to understand kairos?
Kairos is the distinctive mark of discernment because it has signs. As such, Christ asks, O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the SIGNS of the kairos?
When you misinterpret the signs of Kairos, you will most likely miss spiritual time and the opportunities that God has availed for your progress.
For example, a man may be in a season in which God intends to elevate him. The Lord then sends signs such as constant dreams in which the man is instructed by God, a word from a man of God or a connection to an individual. If someone has not understood that he is in a time in which God intends to elevate him, he may look at the signs as mere coincidences and so, fail to act on them by either taking the time to inquire from the Holy Spirit more deeply or seeking to learn from the new people that God has brought into his life.
There are many people who have made momentous decisions in life that have drastically affected them because they discerned wrongly. Quitting a job because you have been at it for the past five years is not the same as quitting when God has instructed you that it is the right time to move on.
Too many people are fixated with chronos, it is all they understand. As the body of Christ, God has called us to awaken our spirits to how kairos works.

KAIROS – ALAMA YA UTAMBUZI

Mathayo 16:3 (KJV); Na asubuhi, mwasema, Leo kutakuwa na dhoruba; kwa maana mbingu ni nyekundu, tena kumetanda. Enyi wanafiki, mwajua kuutambua uso wa mbingu; lakini, je! Ishara za zamani hizi hamwezi kuzitambua?
Katika lugha ya Kiingereza, kuna neno moja tu la kuelezea wakati lakini katika Kigiriki, kuna maneno mawili; kairos na chronos. Chronos, kutoka mahali tunapopata neno kronolojia, inamaanisha wakati wa dakika na sekunde, siku na miezi na miaka, wakati wa saa za mikono, kalenda na saa za ukuta. Kairos inadokeza wakati wa kiroho na sio wakati wa kidunia, ni wakati mteule na matukio ya Roho.
Katika andiko letu kuu, neno lililotumika kurejelea wakati ni kairos na sio chronos .
Kwa nini ni muhimu sana kuelewa kairos?
Kairos ni alama bainifu ya utambuzi kwa sababu ina ishara zake. Kwa hivyo, Kristo anauliza, “Enyi wanafiki, mwaweza kuutambua uso wa anga; lakini hamwezi kuzitambua ISHARA za kairos?”
Unapotafsiri vibaya ishara za Kairos, kuna uwezekano mkubwa kwamba utakosa wakati wa kiroho na fursa ambazo Mungu amekutwalia kwa kuendelea kwako.
Kwa mfano, mtu anaweza kuwa katika majira ambayo Mungu anakusudia kumwinua. Kisha Bwana hutuma ishara kama vile ndoto za mara kwa mara ambazo mtu huyo anafundishwa na Mungu, neno kutoka kwa mtumishi wa Mungu au kuunganishwa na mtu binafsi. Ikiwa mtu hajaelewa kwamba yuko katika wakati ambao Mungu anakusudia kumwinua, anaweza kuziona ishara hizo kuwa ni matukio ya sadfa na kubahatisha tu na hivyo kushindwa kuzifanyia kazi ishara zile aidha kwa kuchukua muda wa kumwuuliza Roho Mtakatifu kwa undani Zaidi ama kutafuta kujifunza kutoka kwa watu wapya ambao Mungu amewaleta katika maisha yake.
Kuna watu wengi ambao wamefanya maamuzi makubwa maishani ambayo yamewaathiri sana kwa sababu walitambua vibaya. Kuacha kazi kwa sababu umeifanya kwa miaka mitano iliyopita si sawa na kuiacha wakati Mungu amekuagiza kuwa ni wakati sahihi wa kuendelea.
Watu wengi sana wamekwamia kwenye chronos kwa sababu ndiyo tu wanayoelewa. Kama mwili wa Kristo, Mungu ametuita kuamsha roho zetu zipate kuelewa jinsi kairos inavyofanya kazi.
