Apostle Grace Lubega
2 Chronicles 12:1 (KJV); And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
The life of Rehoboam is an enduring lesson in the motives that drive people’s relationship with God. It is a lesson worth noting because many people assume that they are genuine in their pursuit of intimacy with God yet they are the farthest thing from genuine.
In Ephesians 6:24, Paul speaks of those that love the Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. It presupposes that there are those who do so insincerely.
This can be said of Rehoboam’s life. It oscillated between moments of commitment to God and moments of detachment from the God of Israel.
In our theme scripture, the Bible gives us the impression that there was a time when he loved the Lord and followed His law but eventually forsook it.
In 2 Chronicles 12, following an attack by Shishak, king of Egypt, the Bible says that Rehoboam and the princes of Israel humbled themselves before God and said, “The Lord is righteous” (2 Chronicles 12:6).
However, in a final analysis of his life, the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 12:14, “And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord.” The Message Bible drives this point home much more strongly. It says, “But the final verdict on Rehoboam was that he was a bad king — GOD WAS NOT IMPORTANT TO HIM; his heart neither cared for nor sought after God.”
All this begs the question: Is God important to you? Do you really want Him? Do you truly love Him? Do you desire Him not for what His hand can give but what His heart can reveal?
God’s importance to us is best demonstrated through our dedication to seeking Him; to making Him the primary pursuit and centre of our lives.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. Thank You for who You are to me and what You are doing in my life. I humble myself before You because You are my source and there is none like You. If I were to search for eternity, I would still find no one because nothing compares to You. My life is Yours to do with as You please, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
