James 4:1-2 (KJV); From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Lust is the primary reason for wars and fights among people. Lust in this context means the desire to satisfy oneself above all else. A man lusts when everything he seeks is about him.
Look at the world around you. How many people have fallen victim to lust? Corruption in government offices is a result of lust; bloodshed between nations is the result of lust; hatred between family members and church members is a result of lust.
In our theme scripture, the Bible reveals that men kill each other because of lust. Some kill with deadly physical weapons while others kill with words.
The way of lust is death. In Numbers 11:34, the Bible says, “And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.”
This means that every time a man sets his heart on what satisfies him alone, every time he seeks only after self-gratification, he will end up in some form of death. This could be emotional, spiritual, financial, or even physical death.
God has called us to have desires that are above the self. This is part of what makes a desire godly.
Life cannot be only about you. Look to serve God above all else. In serving God, you serve others.

Yakobo 4:1-2 (KJV); Engamba n’endwano eziri omuriimwe niziruga hi? Tizirikuruga omu kwetenga okubi okurikurwanira omu ngingo zaanyu? Mweteenga, timuheebwa; n’ekirugamu mwita; kandi mukwatwa eihari, timubaasa kutunga; n’ekirugamu murwana, kandi muhurura. Ekibazibira kuheebwa n’okutashaba.
Okweteenga niyo nshonga y’okubanza erikureeta engaamba n’entaro ahagati y’abantu. Okweteenga nikimanyisa okweyendeza okukira ebindi byoona. Omuntu nayeteenga obu arikuba nayeyendeza buri kimwe.

Yakobo 4:1-2 (KJV); Vita vyatoka wapi, na mapigano yaliyoko kati yenu yatoka wapi? Si humu, katika tamaa zenu zifanyazo vita katika viungo vyenu? Mwatamani, wala hamna kitu, mwaua na kuona wivu, wala hamwezi kupata. Mwafanya vita na kupigana, wala hamna kitu kwa kuwa hamwombi!
Tamaa ndio chanzo cha vita na mapigano kati ya watu. Tamaa katika andiko hili inamaanisha hamu ya kujiridhisha zaidi ya yote na wote. Mtu hutamani wakati ambapo kila kitu anachotafuta ni cha faida yake binafsi.
Angalia ulimwengu unaokuzunguka. Ni watu wangapi ambao wameathiriwa na tamaa? Ufisadi katika ofisi za serikali ni matokeo ya tamaa; umwagaji damu kati ya mataifa ni matokeo ya tamaa; chuki kati ya wanafamilia na washirika wa kanisa ni matokeo ya tamaa.
Katika andiko letu kuu, Biblia inafafanua kwamba watu huuana kwa sababu ya tamaa. Wengine hutumia silaha mbaya za mwili ilhali wengine huua kwa maneno.
Njia ya tamaa ni mauti. Katika Hesabu 11:34, Biblia inasema, “Jina la mahali pale likaitwa Kibroth-hataava; maana, ni hapo walipowazika hao watu waliotamani.”
Hii inamaanisha kuwa kila wakati mtu anapoweka moyo wake kwa kile kinachomridhisha yeye peke yake, akitafuta tu kujifaidi mwenyewe, ataishia kuwa katika aina fulani ya kifo. Hii inaweza kuwa kifo cha kihisia, kiroho, kifedha, au hata kimwili.
Mungu ametuita tuwe na tamaa zilizo zaidi ya nafsi. Hii ni mojawapo ya kile kinachofanya hamu yako iwe ya kiungu.
Maisha hayawezi kukuhusu wewe tu. Angalia kumtumikia Mungu zaidi ya yote. Katika kumtumikia Mungu, unawatumikia watu wengine.
