Apostle Grace Lubega
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV); For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Sometimes, believers struggle with decisions of whom to relate with, to appoint in positions of authority, to trust in ministry, to marry or to have as a business associate.
Because of these struggles, they have entrusted these critical decisions solely to men and women of God, sometimes with disastrous consequences.
Regardless of the fact that the guidance of your spiritual authority is important, God has not ordained your pastor, prophet or apostle as your ultimate discerner of hearts. It is not for them to always decide whom you should trust, marry or appoint.
Every believer has the ability to discern the hearts of men.
Why is this so?
The Bible says in our theme scripture that the Word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God will look past the perfect actor or actress who is practiced in the art of lies. The Word of God will look beyond the man or woman who is putting on a show for your benefit but plans to unveil their true colours once they trap you in holy matrimony.
By the Word, you can understand that a man who seems weak and incapable today will be much stronger and capable in the future or that the one who appears strong at the moment will fall apart in the future.
With the Word, you can study character, sieve temperaments and perceive attitudes.
As children of God, we have been called into places of responsibility that require shrewd decision making. More than ever, we must have an intimate relationship with God’s Word.
The Word of God is the ultimate discerner of hearts. As you cultivate an intimate relationship with the Word, you will realise that no motive, plan or scheme can be hidden from His sight.
