The Phaneroo Devotion: A Gospel of Power

1 Thessalonians 1:5 (KJV): “For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.”

We live in a generation where, in many places, the power of the gospel has gradually diminished from the pulpit and has been replaced with forms of godliness that lack the life of God. Yet the gospel was never meant to be preached without power. Jesus ministered in power. The apostles in the early Church walked in power. Paul demonstrated the gospel through power. The Church today still needs that same power.
God did not call us to preach about a God who heals while hesitating to affirm that He heals diseases—even the most severe ones. He did not send us to declare that with Him all things are possible yet shrink back from certain realities as though they fall outside His ability.
What happens when the power of God departs from the pulpit? When divine power is absent, other influences can easily take its place.
History and experience show that where spiritual authority weakens, compromise can creep in. Teachings may drift from truth. Standards may gradually erode. The sacred is ridiculed. What begins as ‘fun’ can slowly replace reverence for God’s presence.
However, where the power of God is present, there is holy conviction, purity, and transformation. There are atmospheres where certain compromises cannot thrive because the weight of God’s glory preserves the altar. When the true power of the gospel is at work, lives are changed, hearts are convicted, and Christ is exalted.
This is the gospel to which we have been called—a gospel not in word only, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. Hallelujah!

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this word. I understand that the gospel carries power. The Holy Spirit works mightily through me. I not only speak Your Word, but demonstrate it in truth, love, and authority. I see lives transformed and Christ glorified through the power of the gospel. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
