Genesis 35:18 (AMP); And as her soul was departing, (for she died), she named him Ben-oni (son of my sorrow); but his father called him Benjamin ([son of the right hand).
Naming of children is a rite of passage, both spiritually and physically. The name you bear is very critical because it also carries an identity in the realm of the spirit. What you must realise is that many people live up to the names that they bear, most times without realising it.
The Bible bears testimony to this truth. The Hebrew meaning of the name Jacob is supplanter. In Genesis 27:36, his brother Esau says, “Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing.”
In our theme scripture, Jacob was quick to correct the error of Racheal, mother to Benjamin. She sought to name her child after her own painful circumstances, regardless of what that would mean for his future. His father rectified this by calling him the son of the right hand.
But how many people live this life carrying the identity of what other men called them? It may not be a birth name but it may be a description because of something that you did or of your background. Some people have been called failures and accepted it. That is a name! Some people have been called incompetent and accepted it, that is a name! Some women have been called barren and they accepted it, that is a name!
I urge you to embrace the wisdom of Jacob. Whenever a name is thrown at you by virtue of circumstances, you must be quick to change it.

Okutuuma abaana amannya mukolo ogukolebwa ng’akabonero kw’okuva ku ddaala ly’obulamu erimu okudda ku ddala, mu mwoyo ne mu mubiri. Erinnya ly’olina kkulu nnyo kubanga nalyo lirina kye liraga mu nsi ey’omwoyo. Ky’otekeddwa okumanya kiri nti abantu bangi babeera ddala ng’amannya ge batuumiddwa bwe gali, nga tebakitegedde ebiseera ebisinga.
Baibuli erina obujulizi ku mazima gano. Amakulu g’erinnya Yakobo mu lw’ebbulaniya gali nti “omubbi w’ebifo ebitali bibye”. Mu kyawandiikibwa kyaffe ekigguddewo, Yakobo yali mwangu okutereeza ensobi ya Lakeeri, nnyina wa Benyamini. Yayagala okutuuma omwana we erinnya okusinziira ku bulumi bwe yayitamu, nga tafuddeeyo ku ki ekyo kye kyanditegeezezza mu biseera bye eby’omumaaso. Kitaawe kino yakitereeza nga amuyita omwana w’omukono ogwa ddyo.
Naye abantu bameka ababeerawo mu bulamu buno nga balina ekikula ky’ekyo abantu abalala kye baabayita? Liyinza obutabeera linnya lya buzaale naye kiyinza okubeera nga kinnyonnyola ekintu kye wakola oba ebyayita byo. Abantu abamu bayitiddwa abalemererwa ne bakikkiriza. Eryo linnya! Abantu abamu bayitiddwa abatalina bukugu ne bakikkiriza, eryo linnya! Abakazi abamu bayitiddwa abagumba ne bakikkiriza, eryo linnya!
Mbakubiriza okutwala amagezi ga Yakobo. Buli erinnya bwe likutuumibwa olw’embeera gy’oyitamu, oteekeddwa okubeera omwangu okulikyusa.

Okutandika 35:18; Ku yaabaire ari haihi kufa, omu kukaba kwe yaamweta Benoni; kwonka ishe yaamweta Benyamiini.
Okuha abaana amaziina n’omugyenzo mukuru, omunsi y’omwoyo n’erikureebwa. Eiziina eri oine nikikuru ahabw’okuba ryeine eki ririkujwekyera omunsi y’omwoyo. Eki oshemereire kwetegyereza ni ngu abantu baingi nibaba eki amaziina gaabo garikumanyisa, obwiire obwiingi batakimanyire.
Baiburi nejurira amazima aga. Eiziina ry’oruheburaayo rya Yakobo nirimanyisa Engobya. Omu Okutandika 27:36 “Mweine ishe Esau yaagira ati: Yakobo ni Yakobo kwo; eiziina niwe muntu. Eki n’ekya kabiri nangobeza; akanyihaho obukuru bwangye; mbwenu reeba kandi yaanyihaho n’omugisha gwangye.”
Omu mutwe gw’ebyahandiikirwe byaitu, Yakobo akarahuka kushoborora enshobi ya Rakeeli, nyina Benyamiini. Akasharaho kuha omwaana we eiziina kuruga omu busaasi bwe, atarikufayo ekyo eki kyabaire nikimanyisa omu biro bye by’omu maisho. Ishe akashoborora eki arikumweeta Omutabani w’omukono gw’aburyo.
Kwonka n’abantu bangahi abari omu magara aga n’endeebeka y’abantu abandi babetsire? Kuruka abaana amabara guli murwa gw’okuhingisanizibwa, mubyombi eby’omwoyo hamu neby’omubiri. Ibara elyonyinalyo kintu kyomugaso muno habwokuba linyina emanyikirizo omu nsi ey’omwoyo. Eky’osemeriire kumanya nikyo ngu abantu nyamwingi bome’ra oku amabara gaabo gali, obusumi obukira obwingi batakukimanyirra.
Baibuli enyina obwakaiso hali amazima ganu. Amakuru g’ibara Yakobo muruyonani nugo omucompya. Omu Kubanza 27:36, mutahiwe Esau yagamba ati, “Atarukwe kurungi ibaralye Yakobo? baitu atahire omu byange emirundi enu ebiri: akanyihaho ebyobukuru bwange: kandi na hati dora, anyihireho omugisa gwange.”
Omukyahandikirwe kyaitu eky’omutwe, Yakobo akarahukya kugorra ensobi ya Rakeeri, nyina Benyamini. Akagonza kumuruka ibara nasigikirra hambe’ra y’obusaasibwe, atakufayo ekiramubaho omubiro ebikwija. Ise akagorra kinu namuruka omwana w’omukono ogw’obulyo.
Baitu bantu baingaha abome’ra obwomezi bunu bahimbire emanyikirizo ey’abantu bandi eyibabahaire? Lisobora kutaba ibara elyobuzarwa baitu kisobora kuba ensoborra habw’ekintu ekiwakozire rundi endugirro yawe. Abantu abamu b’esirwe abalemeriirwe kandi bakiikiriza. Eri naryo ibara. Abamu b’esirwe abatasobora kandi bakiikiriza, eri ibara. Abakazi abamu b’esirwe ngumba nabo bakiikiriza, eri ibara!
Ninkusaba okwanukura amagezi ga Yakobo. Buli kasumi ibara obulirakuhabwa habw’enyikara ezorumu, osemerire oyanguhe kukigorra.

Mwanzo 35:18 ( AMP); Na roho yake ilipotoka, (maana alikufa), akamwita jina lake Ben-oni (mwana wa huzuni yangu); lakini baba yake alimwita Benyamini (mwana wa mkono wa kulia)
Kuwapa watoto majina ni ibada ya kupita, kiroho na kimwili. Jina unalobeba ni muhimu sana kwa sababu pia lina utambulisho katika ulimwengu wa roho. Unachopaswa kutambua ni kwamba watu wengi wanaishi kulingana na majina wanayoitwa, mara nyingi hata bila kujua.
Biblia inatoa ushuhuda wa ukweli huu. Maana ya Kiebrania ya jina Yakobo ni anayechukua nafasi kwa nguvu. Katika Mwanzo 27:36, kaka yake Esau anasema, “Je! Hakuitwa Yakobo kwa haki, maana amejitia mahali pangu mara mbili hizi? Alichukua haki yangu ya mzaliwa wa kwanza, na sasa amechukua mbaraka wangu.”
Katika andiko letu la mada, Yakobo alikuwa mwepesi kusahihisha makosa ya Raheli, mama yake Benyamini. Alitafuta kumpa mtoto wake jina kutokana na hali zake zenye uchungu, bila kujali hilo lingemaanisha nini kwa maisha yake ya baadaye. Baba yake alirekebisha hili kwa kumwita mtoto wa mkono wa kulia.
Lakini ni watu wangapi wanaishi maisha haya wakiwa wamebeba utambulisho wa kile ambacho watu wengine waliwaita? Huenda lisiwe jina la kuzaliwa lakini linaweza kuwa ni maelezo kwa sababu ya kitu ulichofanya au asili yako. Baadhi ya watu wameitwa washindwa na wamekubali hilo. Hilo ni jina! Watu wengine wameitwa wasio na uwezo na walikubali, hilo ni jina! Wanawake wengine wameitwa tasa wakakubali hilo ni jina!
Ninakusihi kukumbatia hekima ya Yakobo. Kila jina linapotupwa kwako kutokana na mazingira, lazima uwe mwepesi kulibadilisha.
