1 Corinthians 14:39 (KJV); Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
I have, quite sadly, heard men preach against the speaking of tongues in their ministries. This is done for a number of reasons whose backing you cannot find in the scriptures.
For example, there are those who forbid Christians from speaking in tongues because those around them will not understand them when they pray.
Our theme scripture is very clear on this. It says that you should not forbid anyone from speaking with tongues. The Message version of the same scripture says, “Don’t tell people how they should or shouldn’t pray when they’re praying in tongues that you don’t understand.”
Simply because you do not understand what someone else is saying while praying should not be a reason for you to stop them from speaking in tongues. After all, they are speaking to God and not to you.
In 1 Corinthians 14:2, the Bible says, “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh NOT UNTO MEN, BUT UNTO GOD: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”
Tongues, even when spoken publicly, are a private conversation between a man and his God and should be respected as such.
Praying in tongues ought to be encouraged because it is our language of prayer as children of the Most High God.

KUHUSU KUNENA KWA LUGHA – 1

1 Wakorintho 14:39 (KJV); Kwa ajili ya hayo, ndugu, takeni sana kuhutubu, wala msizuie kunena kwa lugha.
Kwa kusikitisha sana, nimesikia watu wakihubiri dhidi ya kunena kwa lugha katika huduma zao. Hii inafanywa kwa sababu kadhaa ambazo utegemezo wake huwezi kupata katika maandiko.
Kwa mfano, wapo wanaowakataza Wakristo kunena kwa lugha kwa sababu waliowazunguka hawatawaelewa wanapoomba.
Andiko letu la mada yetu liko wazi sana juu ya hili. Linasema kwamba usimkataze mtu yeyote kunena kwa lugha. Toleo la Message la andiko hilo linasema, “Usiwaambie watu jinsi wanavyopaswa au wasivyopaswa kuomba wanapoomba kwa lugha ambazo wewe huelewi.”
Kwa sababu tu huelewi mtu mwingine anachosema wakati anaomba isiwe sababu ya wewe kumzuia kunena kwa lugha. Mwishowe, wanazungumza na Mungu na sio wewe.
Katika 1 Wakorintho 14:2, Biblia inasema, “Maana yeye anenaye kwa lugha, HASEMI NA WATU, BALI HUSEMA NA MUNGU; maana hakuna asikiaye; lakini anena mambo ya siri katika roho yake.”
Lugha, hata zikisemwa hadharani, ni mazungumzo ya faragha kati ya mtu na Mungu wake na yanapaswa kuheshimiwa hivyo.
Kuomba kwa lugha kunapaswa kuhimizwa kwa sababu ni lugha yetu ya maombi kama wana wa Mungu Mkuu.
