It is your sacred responsibility as a believer to intercede for those in authority over you. This responsibility spans every realm of life: government officials on both the ruling and opposition sides, your pastors and spiritual leaders, and your managers in the workplace.
Crucially, Scripture never conditions this assignment on whether a leader is good or bad. God did not command us to pray only for those who are noble, fair, or like-minded.
Consider the sobering account of King Saul and David in 1 Samuel 16. When David was anointed, the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit came to torment the king. What we often overlook is that, despite Saul’s deteriorating spiritual condition, he did not immediately lose his position as king. He remained in office, continuing to exercise authority over the nation.
When a leader struggles with spiritual torment, bitterness, or wickedness, everyone under their authority feels the strain. If your leader is in trouble, you are in trouble. Their decisions, moods, and spiritual posture may directly affect your environment. This is why intercession is not an endorsement of a leader’s actions; it is spiritual wisdom. Praying for your leaders invites God’s peace and restrains evil as you live in alignment with His Word.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank You for this word. I lift up those in government, my spiritual shepherds and my bosses. Lord, I bring them before You regardless of their character or how they treat me. You bless them, lead them, keep them and guide them. I pray for their families, businesses, dreams and aspirations. You increase them and all that belongs to them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
