Apostle Grace Lubega
Deuteronomy 23:21 (NKJV): “When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the LORD your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you.”

Vows are very powerful and extremely important to God because they are one of the pillars on which covenants stand. They may be personal, family, or national vows. In this devotional, I wish to emphasize the power of vows made concerning marriage.
To many people, marriage vows are merely normal and ordinary recitations made during a ceremony, only to be forgotten once the festivities start and the marriage celebrations begin.
In fact, the taking of vows before God is one of the most important beginnings of the marriage union because, when those vows are spoken, heaven takes note of them.
Our theme scripture reminds us that when you make a vow, God will surely require it of you. This means that you should not leave your vows at the altar or treat them as words spoken only for the occasion.
Even during the course of your marriage, you should make it a habit to remind yourself of the things you said on the day you got married. Know what you committed yourself to, keep those commitments in your memory and heart, and allow them to guide how you treat your spouse.
Understanding the power of your vows casts a new light on how you live your married life. When challenges arise, your vows remind you to remain faithful, patient, kind, forgiving, and committed, even in seasons that demand sacrifice. Hallelujah!

GOLDEN NUGGET: Even during the course of your marriage, you should make it a habit to remind yourself of the vows you made on the day you got married. Know what you committed yourself to, keep those commitments in your memory and heart, and allow them to guide how you treat your spouse.
PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this word. I understand the sacredness of covenant and the power of vows made before You. You teach me to honour my words, my commitments, and the covenant of marriage with reverence and faithfulness. I live with love, patience, humility, forgiveness, and wisdom toward my spouse. My marriage is strengthened by the fear of God, guided by Your Spirit, and established in the love of Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
