Apostle Grace Lubega
2 Chronicles 16:7-8 (KJV); And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the Lord thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand. Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord, he delivered them into thine hand.
When Baasha, King of Israel, rose up against Judah, King Asa sought the help of Benhadad, King of Syria.
The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 16:4-5, “And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.”
After this retreat by Israel, Hanani the seer came to King Asa and condemned him for what he had done.
Think about it for a moment. King Asa had successfully driven away the enemy with the support of the King of Syria but God was not pleased. I imagine that the people rejoiced when they saw Israel cease its damaging acts against Judah. I believe some even thanked the Lord God their deliverer but we realise from the prophet that God was not happy about these events.
Why is this so? Some victories are losses to God and some losses are victories to God. What King Asa counted as a victory was actually a defeat in the eyes of the Lord because of whom he had relied on for help.
True victory ensues when we are in the perfect will of God. This is why we must learn to fight God’s way. The enemies may be mighty but lean on the Lord. The haters may sharpen their claws and dig them into you but lean on the Lord. It is only by complete dependence on the Father that we can be assured of victory that lasts and stands the test of time.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. Thank You for the wisdom to discern true victories. I know what is from You and what is not from You; I do not lean on the arm of flesh but on Your enduring strength and might. You are the guarantee of true victory. I look to You in all storms and fires because Your promise is sure, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
